Compassionate about the New Zealand landscape, she returned
to her homeland after 6 years and the following year began
painting full-time.
As well as her colourful New Zealand landscapes and seascapes,
Sue also paints European and British cityscapes and landscapes
in acrylics oils and watercolours.
The way in which Sue captures the light in her paintings and the
use of colour, signifies her individual style. Often included is
accurate rendering of detail. The paint is applied liberally in
a series of layers in both watercolours, oils and acrylics.
In her watercolours, colour is applied with a series of glazes and
the translucent paints produce the clear crisp work that Sue is
recognised for. She has built up a large repertoire of paintings
from seascapes to mountain scenes, buildings and figures.
She has travelled and painted extensively in New Zealand as well
as Europe, Southern Britain, Australia, Fiji, Mexico China and Asia.
Sue's other passion has been sailing. She sailed a 'P' class on
Lyttelton Harbour at Charteris Bay from a very young age then
progressed to Zephyr, Paper Tiger, and Keelboats, competing at
National level in each class. Boats often feature in her paintings.
'To experience the place and capture the moment is
the first step in creating a good painting,' Sue says.
She is a Christchurch born artist who exhibits regularly in
New Zealand and is the recipient of numerous awards.
Her paintings are in private collections in Japan, USA,
France, UK, Germany, Switzerland, Australia and New Zealand.
